Abstract
Background: Candida infection is a common opportunistic infection in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, particularly in the context of immunosuppressionduring treatment. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Candida infection and identify associated factors among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at Dak Lak Lung Hospital in 2025. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 323 pulmonary tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment from July to October 2025. Sputum samples were collected following standard procedures, then subjected to Gram staining and examined microscopically to detect the presence of Candida spp. based on cellular morphology. Data were obtained from medical records and analyzed using statistical software to assess associations with potential risk factors. Results: Among the 323 sputum samples analyzed, 31.9% of patients were found to have Candida spp. Logistic regression analysis indicated that the treatment phase was independently associated with Candida infection. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that Candida infection occurs with a relatively high prevalence among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Early detection using Gram staining may help guide diagnosis and support treatment monitoring.
